Andrei Tarkovsky Retrospective

Using pure cinematic means, Tarkovsky created a metaphysical entity to his films. He shaped a unique cinematic style that mostly consists of long shots and hypnotic imagestry, trying to capture the sensual and emotional essence of reality. The result was groundbreaking, stunning, and distinctive cinema that offers an experience that penetrates the heart and the senses.

Billy Wilder Tribute

From1929, he began to make a living writing for the local film industry. Following several successes as a scriptwriter, Wilder began directing movies. He has said that one cannot rely on Hollywood directors to "correctly" read the script ("they ask me if a good director needs to know how to write, I say a good director needs to know how to read"). In the years after WWII, Billy Wilder became one of the most important and unique directors in Hollywood.

Dying Slowly - Jacques Katmor

Katmor created in the 60s and 70s subversive, experimental, and innovative cinema that was ahead of it time in Israel. The myth surrounding his character has left this fascinating and unique artist forgotten. This program will hopefully bring him back to the front of the stage.

Horror and Aversion Weekend

A unique collaboration with MGM marking Friday the 13th, the most cursed day of the year, in a weekend dedicated to all that is blood, madness, and horror. The best chilling, crazy, and bizarre horror films on the big screen.

Music in Soviet Cinema

The Russians are defiantly a talented and artistic people, but 20th century cruel censorship led by the government did not allow for these abilities to be expressed in a modern and revealing way. Genres that did not threaten the governing ideology developed in an astounding manner and reached heights that have never been reached since then, mostly in classical ballet. The other genre that thrived is that of the musical comedy.
