MAY 2011

Coen Brothers Retrospective

This coming May, the Dan David Prize will be awarded filmmaking duo Joel and Ethan Coen. In honor of this prestigious accolade, and their upcoming visit to Israel, the Jerusalem Cinematheque will be presenting a nearly complete retrospective of their works. Nearly thirty years have passed since Blood Simple, and one may easily say that the Coen Brothers have finally arrived to the mainstream. But then again, it may be more apt to say: the mainstream has finally arrived to them.

Reframing Reality 2011

Reframing Reality was launched to encourage artistic productions created by or depicting people with special needs. Our aim is to expose those images and presentations which contradict stereotypes regarding people with disabilities and bring them to public awareness and help advance their own rights. This successful partnership between the Cinematheque and Shekel continues this year with Reframing Reality 2011. We invite the public to experience and enjoy a diverse array of superb films and performances.

Holocaust Remembrance Day - Act of Memory

The Jerusalem Cinematheque in collaboration with the Naggar School in Musrara, Jerusalem, commemorate Yom Ha'Shoah by screening works of video art and animation. This year's program includes works that make use of archival footage or historical materials. Each work expresses the memory of the Shoah differently, redefining the limits of memory beyond historical events and personal testimonials.
