Ciné-reel: An Exchange Between Cinematheques

For the 2018 France-Israel Season, we are delighted to present, in partnership with the Institut français, Ciné-reel, an exchange programme between 4 French cinematheques - Cinémathèque de Toulouse, Institut Jean Vigo in Perpignan, Cinémathèque de Nice and Cinémathèque de Grenoble – and four Israeli cinematheques - Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Holon and Haifa.

The Cinémathèque de Toulouse is taking the lead for the French part, organising this operation alongside the Jerusalem Cinematheque.

This project will happen in two stages: the presentation of a French cinema programme in Israel in October 2018 and a programme of Israeli films in French cinemas in November 2018 to end the Season.

For this first part of the exchange in Israel, Ciné-reel aims to share the wealth and diversity of the collections kept in the four French cinematheques that are partners of the project. The priority will be given to discovering French cinema that is little known abroad. Within the selection chosen by the French film programmers, major films that are part of France’s heritage will obviously be shown but a large share of the programme will be given over to more recent and unexpected works.
