David Zucker: A Tribute

Director, scriptwriter, and producer David Zucker, famous for the wacky and sarcastic humor in his films, will be our guest of honor this month. Together with his brother Jerry and Jim Abrahams, Zucker formed new standards for the parody genre. His body of work include The Naked Gun, Top Secret!, and Airplane! that was declared by the Library of Congress as one of the most important comedies of all time. His work is characterized by meticulous directing which is as serious as the films they take a jab at. The films showcase well-known dramatic actors such as Omar Sharif and Peter Graves (Mission Impossible), as well as other celebrities such as basketball player Karim Abdul-Jabbar, in comic roles. For some, as the case was for Leslie Nielsen, these roles where career changing.

David Zucker will be present for the screening of Airplane! and will be holding a conversation with the audience following the screening

Top Secret

Dir.: David Zucker, Jerry Zucker, Jim Abrahams
| 90 minutes

A likeable comedy about an Elvis-like rock star who becomes involved in espionage while touring in Germany. The Zucker brother and Jim Abrahams wackiest parody that takes aim at every genre imaginable, from spy films, to musicals, melodrama, and even Elvis.

An Evening with David Zucker

Director, scriptwriter, and producer David Zucker (Top Secret, The Naked Gun) in conversation with Alon Gur Arye

Airplane!

Dir.: Jim Abrahams, Jerry Zucker, David Zucker
| 90 minutes

A very funny parody on the disaster film genre, with an endless stream of gags, which became the breakthrough film for the team of the Zucker brothers and Jim Abrahams.

Kentucky Fried Movie

Dir.: John Landis
| 85 minutes

A collection of comic sketches performed by the Los Angeles Fried Theatre parodying television programs, commercials and movies. Ironic, slapstick, Python-esque humor. Masterminded by the team of the Zucker brothers and Jim Abrahams, the film would be the base to the outrageous comedies that followed.

The Naked Gun

Dir.: David Zucker
| 85 minutes

Another hilarious parody by the Zucker brothers and Jim Abrahams. This time, the victim of their satire is the cop movie genre. Leslie Nielsen is incompetent police officer Frank Drebin, who tries to stop an evil plan to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to L.A.
