FEBRUARY 2010

Asher Tlalim Retrospective

"Cinema has been my closest and most intimate companion, holding my hand throughout my life's journey, helping me observe, experience, comprehend and deal with life through sounds and images. I have always believed and hoped that through my own personal journey I would touch the universal. Now, looking at my films, some of which will be screened in this retrospective, they seem to be part of one long film, divided into many chapters, many stations along the voyage of my life...."

Cinematheque Guest: Ulrike Ottinger

She is the only German female filmmaker to be fully involved in all aspects of her films, from ideas and concepts, to direction, photography and production. You may say she is a cinematic auteur, though the term is too minute to accommodate all of her artistic interests. The title Artist-Filmmaker seems more appropriate, as her work is exempt of the usual cinematic imagery.
