A Time of Light // Exhibition

A Time of Light is a time for creation. These are moments captured by the camera lens or the painter’s brush, that present the beauty of the land, from valley to mountain.

The late Hebrew film researcher Yaakov Gross left behind a fascinating and diverse collection of pictures, postcards, posters, and paintings created by him and by the pioneers of Hebrew film – Yaakov Ben Dov and Baruch Agadati, in whose footsteps he followed for more than half his life.

This year, Gross planned the centennial celebration of Hebrew film, first created on the second day of Hanukkah, 1917. General Allenby’s entry into Jerusalem heralded the advent of the redemption, and Yaakov Ben Dov’s camera was there to perpetuate the moment. This exhibition is dedicated to the memory of the dreamers and artists who never despaired and left us with a Time of Light - Yaakov Ben Dor, the father of Hebrew film, who 110 years ago documented Israel’s landscapes in postcards; Baruch Agadati, dancer, artist, and pioneer of cinema; and Yaakov Gross – filmmaker, painter, writer, and poet.

Curator: Heally Gross

The exhibit will be presented at the Jerusalem Cinematheque during the Jewish Film Festival.
