1943, German occupied Paris. Guitarist and composer Django Reinhardt is at the height of his career. The brilliant and carefree jazz musician, king of the ethereal ‘gypsy swing,’ plays to standing-room only crowds. Meanwhile, the Romany people are targets of racist persecution throughout Europe and are being murdered in concentration camps. His life takes a turn when the Nazi propaganda machine wants to send him on tour in Germany. Faced with the question of whether to allow his art to be misused for political purposes, he has to make a decision of vital significance. A film about civic responsibility of artists in troubled political times.
