Ethiopia, 1989. Mina is a young girl living with her family on the outskirts of Addis Ababa. She spends her free time under the fig tree with her friend Eli. Outside her beloved childhood landscape, a prolonged civil war is raging, and Eli hides to avoid conscription. When Mina’s Jewish family plans to leave Ethiopia for Israel, Mina hatches her own plan to make sure Eli joins them on their journey.

Fig Tree is a unique and spectacular film that offers a rare glimpse into an untold world. The film’s world premiere was held at the 2018 Toronto Festival where it won the AUDENTIA prize. Fig Tree also won Best Cinematography at the 2018 Israeli Academy Awards and the 2018 Haifa Festival.
