Anthony Keane is hired to defend a beautiful and enigmatic socialite accused of murdering her blind husband. Though he is a model husband himself—and his father-in-law is also his senior advisor—Keane can't help but fall for his client. Hitchcock seems to relish returning to British manners, with their dry humor and repressed emotion. Yet at the heart of this noir plot lies the familiar masculine illusion about women—an illusion that so often leads to disappointment. The restoration of The Paradine Case premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival. It reveals a mature and measured Hitchcock; beneath its stylistic precision and dramatic framing lies a romantic, bitter irony.
